Revue Thommen
Revue Thommen watches. A little history:
In 1853, the small town of Waldenburg, Switzerland, founded the “Société d’Horlogerie à Waldenburg” to try to remedy the high unemployment rate at that time. Six years later, Louis Tschopp and Gédéon Thommen took over the Company until Louis Tschopp retired in 1869, leaving Gédéon Thommen the sole owner of the company, which he renamed the Company “Gédéon Thommen – Uhrenfabrikation”.
The company was later taken over by his son Alphonse and in 1936 the production of aviation instruments became the second main activity of Thommens Uhrenfabrik AG.
In 1947, Waldenburg watchmakers developed the world famous “Cricket” watch. Several American presidents wear a Cricket, which is why it is also called “the president’s watch”.
In 1950 Thommen developed new watch movements, including the GT 82 movement. From then on, “Thommens Uhrenfabrik AG” was a completely independent company which also produced watch components alongside its own movements.
The following years saw the creation of MSR Holding, which brought together the Revue, Vulcain, Buser Phenix and Marvin brands under one roof and which was based on the legendary “Springeruhr GT” watch from 1885 to launch the first Saltarello collection in 1969, while n 1987 “Thommens Uhrenfabrik AG” creates the double brand “Revue Thommen”.
In the 1990s, Revue Thommen increased its production of aviation instruments. It has since supplied all major aircraft manufacturers worldwide. Revue Thommen watches of course benefit from this experience.
Currently the RT Diver line offers automatic diving watches at a remarkable price-quality ratio.
